ICT Intraday Profiles: The London Session Blueprint
Learn to identify high-probability London session setups using ICT's protraction profiles.
In a Nutshell
Intraday profiles reveal how market makers manipulate price during the London session. By tracking two key ranges (Central Bank Dealers and Asian) and specific time-based movements, you can anticipate whether to expect a "normal protraction" (12 AM-2 AM move) or "delayed protraction" (2 AM-3 AM move).
Core Concepts
1. Central Bank Dealers Range
2 PM–8 PM EST
The consolidation range after NY close. Must be <40 pips for normal protraction setups.
2. Asian Range
8 PM–12 AM EST
The "setup phase." Ideal range: 20-30 pips. Wider ranges indicate instability.
How to Trade the Two Key Profiles
1 Normal Protraction (12 AM–2 AM Move)
For Sellers:
- Price rises steadily from 12 AM–2 AM EST
- Forms London high by 4 AM EST
- Example: EURUSD rallies 50 pips post-midnight, then drops 100+ pips
For Buyers:
- Price declines steadily from 12 AM–2 AM EST
- Forms London low by 4 AM EST
- Example: US100Cash drops 60 pips, then rallies into NY open
2 Delayed Protraction (2 AM–3 AM Move)
Key Difference: The "Judas swing" happens later (after 2 AM EST).
- Price doesn't move as expected at midnight
- Wait for 2 AM EST retracement into PD Array
- Example: GBPUSD chops until 2:15 AM, then makes final high before dropping
Student Checklist
Before Trading London:
- • Higher timeframe bias: Daily chart must agree with direction (bullish/bearish)
- • Central Bank Range: <40 pips for normal protraction
- • Asian Range: 20-30 pip consolidation
- • Midnight Move: Immediate protraction at 12 AM? If not, wait for 2 AM.
Common Pitfalls
- Trading wide ranges: >40 pip Central Bank or >30 pip Asian range = avoid
- Ignoring time windows: No move by 2:30 AM? Skip the session.
- Overriding higher TF bias: Don't buy if daily chart is bearish!
